It's Worth a Shot
39 weeks in the books. 1 week to go (until the due date anyway). We're going to see if we can push this thing along with a little help from some good old fashioned Italian food. Sound weird? Agreed. But we're ready to test the metro-Atlanta urban legend.
Stay tuned...

"Down The Stretch They Come"
Goodbye week 38. Hello week 39. What was once many calendar pages away, September 5th is now right around the corner; two weeks to be exact. Not much to report here on the baby front. Harper has made it quite clear she's ignoring her eviction notices and isn't ready to join us anytime soon. Any of you that had August dates as your bet, you're becoming kind of like the Atlanta Falcons and you're destined to lose.
Side Bar - speaking of football (yes, on a baby blog...judge me all you want). It's definitely an exciting time with a baby on the way - made even more exciting with football fast approaching. It's a little silly, but we decided to compare which was more exciting: the birth of our child or the kickoff of the best sport in the history of mankind. But then we quickly realized - it's not a little silly...it's A LOT silly to compare the two.
Everyone knows football is more exciting.

The bottle was dusty, but the beer was clean
Last night was date night. Elizabeth is officially full term, so in anticipation of our diminishing freedom, we took some time to go on a date - just the two of us. We had an awesome time and, as a requirement for our date, kept the baby-talk to a minimum.
Early into dinner, I came back from the bathroom to find this:

It's been a long nine months.

Wanna Bet?
With just a shade over 3 weeks to go, we're getting a little bored in the Wentz household. Yes...we've heard, ad nauseum, that "you won't be bored when the baby gets here" and "enjoy it while you can, blah blah blah." Look, at this point, we're Charlie Brown and the advice givers are the teacher. We don't care and we're no longer listening. And that is said with the utmost respect, love ;) and just a hint of naivete.
So...in the spirit of, well, nothing really, we're taking bets on when Harper will arrive and how much she'll weigh. Elizabeth thinks the prize should be a bottle of wine - but I think that's lame and Elizabeth will probably drink it before we can mail it anyway. Paula/Giagia has taken the liberty of choosing 3 dates and should be disqualified but the judge's ruling for her is a bottle of 2 Buck Chuck should she claim victory.
As you ask yourself, "Self, why should I play the game when I don't really know what's in it for me?" Look, we know how often you're on here and since you're out there blog-stalking anyway...entertain us all (and yourself) and vote. It'll be good practice for the upcoming election. Only this outcome will produce actual results and although I can't promise a tax cut or socialized medicine, it shall be fun.
Post your bet as a comment. Don't be shy.
Wagers:
Melissa and Chase - Sept. 5th, 7lbs 4 oz

The Missing Ingredient
The sheets are clean, the clothes are washed and the diapers are ready and waiting. Now...we wait for a baby. Here are some pics of the nursery.
Sweet Tea
Auntie Melissa hosted a shower at the Ritz for Elizabeth last weekend. Elizabeth was able to enjoy a special girls weekend - the last one before Harper arrives - with her sister, mother and aunt.

Baby Cup
These may be difficult to see, but Elizabeth's mother/Harper's Giagia gave Elizabeth a very special gift over the weekend at her shower in Atlanta. It's a silver cup that belonged to Elizabeth's mother when she was a baby (don't worry Paula, I won't tell how old the cup is). The cup has Giagia's name and birthdate engraved on one side, and Harper's first and middle name engraved on the other. It was definitely a touching gift to receive. Once Harper is born, we'll take it and have her birthday engraved under her name so it'll match the other side.And...well...on the off-chance Harper comes out a boy, thanks for the pen holder, Giagia!
